Testimonials are a critical element that help build trust in your business. Customers want to buy services or products that other customers bought and liked. 

When designing Moria Gabsi website and read her testimonials, I was amazed by her clients’ thankfulness through their testimonials. Through their words,  I understood how good, unique, and caring a tour guide she is. Even though I haven’t yet been on one of her tours, I started highly recommending her service because of her Testimonials’ quality and sincerity. 

A new customer is highly influenced by what other customers have to say about what they loved, how you treated them, how your service or product solved their problem and improved their experience. 

Great testimonials increase sales!

How to ask for great testimonials?

Customers feel awkward in front of a blank page, and they most often do not know where to start. You want to help them through the process and ease the task.

Testimonials also help you improve your work by understanding what your customer liked and what he feels there is room for improvement. Do not hesitate to add a question that enables you to understand a specific need your customer has.

When is the right time to ask for a testimonial?

You can ask for testimonials during or after you deliver your service/product. But do not wait too long; the closer to the experience, the more the details and emotions are alive and easier to relate to.

Prepare a set of questions.

Make it short and strategic. You want your customer to answer questions that help deal with future objections, reflecting the specific struggles, emphasizing results.

These are an example of questions I send to my customers:

  1. What problem/opportunity were you trying to address when you engaged with us?
  2. What hesitations did you have before purchasing our service?   
  3. What made you decide to work with us?
  4. What did you like best about our service?
  5. What changes have you noticed in your business after deploying the service? (Be as specific as possible)
  6. How could we improve our service?
  7. What was one tangible result you would tell a friend about from our together?
  8. Is there anything else you want to add?

Work with google forms to collect information.

The simplest way to collect your testimonial is through google forms.

At the end of the form, you should include checkboxes for permissions: 

  • To use their words on your website and in your marketing materials
  • To use their picture, They can choose to upload a photo they want us to use.

Prepare your testimonial to enclose on your website.

Cut and Paste the answers to create a coherent flow and outstanding testimonial.
You might have to edit the answers to improve clarity. But don’t edit emotions as they help connect. If you edit the text, make sure you get your client’s approval.

I usually send the final version of the testimonial for permission before publishing.
